The Best Most Accurate Grade - GPS, Laser, and Machine Control
With the benefits of the controlled and accurate machine being first realized with total stations, expanded to multiple machines on site by lasers, contractors again wanted more. This time the call to manufacturers was to produce and offer a reasonable way to control all 3 dimensions on a job site. This allows contractors to build complex shapes, curbs in 3 dimensions, cut out foundations, and all sorts of other things that were not possible before.
GPS, or Global Positioning Satellite based systems, were initially introduced to the survey and mapping communities due to their broad scope and never before known accuracy. This was quickly integrated into a working system to replace the basic rotating lasers. However, with vertical tolerances of GPS being roughly 3 times that which contractors require, the laser was reintroduced to control vertical accuracy.
The lower cost answer is Laser Machine Control Systems.
Pros- Controls on EACH machine
- Precise Measurements
- Larger Job sites (1/4 mile radius per laser)
- As many machines as you can fit on site
- Automated Hydraulics Available
- curves, cones, & curbs
- no reliance on stakes

Cons- Computer Files
- More costly
